This is what he said: "The BOM doesn't contain anything about Mormonism/LDS practices in it"
Maybe not specifically..but the doctrine, ordinances, principles are all the same. It's all from Christ. But yet, nothing is directly stated about the organization of the church or such.
Where did they come from then?
Revelation to the Prophet Joseph Smith. Which is WHY gaining a testimony of the Prophet who restored the LDS church is so important. BOM is direct evidence, because he translated it, then built off of its principles to receive revelation for the establishment of the church. The D&C contains a lot of the organization of the church, which all came through revelation through Joseph Smith.
Why do we read the BOM then?
Open the channel of revelation for ourselves, learn pure doctrine and see how God is unchanging. The ordinances, principles, doctrine is all the same. The same as when Christ lived/taught.
Is the religion of the people in the BOM/Bible the same as the LDS church?
It may not seem so, b/c the Restored is "adapted" to the latter-days in a sense. We live the new and everlasting covenant instead of the Law of Moses. No more animal sacrifices. But this was all "changed" because of the revelations of the Prophet Joseph Smith! Which, again, is why one should pray about the truthfulness of Joseph's Prophetship, through the BOM. When you pray, you just know it is true. Further evidence is the blessings obtained from obedience to the law and ordinances of the restored gospel. God would not want so many of his children going down a wrong path, especially if they have righteous desires, humility, and a desire to seek His truth.
Another piece of evidence of the truthfulness of this Restored Gospel is the restoration of the Priesthood. This power is real. It's the power to baptize, heal, comfort. It's God's power. These miracles are not just coincidences; they are brought about by the power and will of God.
What are you're thoughts??
